“They, however, that they may establish their false opinion regarding that which is written, ‘To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,’ maintain that He preached for one year only, and then suffered in the twelfth month. They are deceived, not understanding the account of what took place. For the Lord came to be baptized, not when He was a child, but when He was already thirty years old, and then He came to Jerusalem, so that He might be properly acknowledged by all, and that He might fulfill the time of teaching, as the Gospel of Luke testifies. Now, Jesus was not only thirty years old when He fulfilled the office of a Teacher, but He was of the age between thirty and forty and even up to nearly fifty years of age, as He still taught, as the Gospel and all the elders testify…”

“But Jesus was not only thirty years old when He exercised the functions of a teacher, but He was also about forty years old, as the elders testify who were conversant with John the disciple of the Lord… the Lord appeared to them not as a young man, but as one advanced in years, as one who had attained the age of a teacher.”
يقول ايرناؤس:
“باختصار الكلام والحديث: لم يكن يسوع فقط ابن ثلاثين سنة عندما بدأ التعليم، بل كان في سن يتراوح بين الثلاثين إلى الأربعين، بل وحتى قريب من الخمسين، لأنه ظلّ يعلّم، كما يشهد الإنجيل وكل الشيوخ…”
فهذا اجتهاد غير ملزم وغير مبني علي موثوقية بل راي اجتهادي منه. إيريناؤس قال إنه ينقل من “شيوخ من آسيا الذين عرفوا يوحنا الرسول”، لكنه:
- لا يذكر أسماءهم (مجرد “presbyters”)،
- لا يوجد أي مصدر آبائي آخر يقول بعمر 50 سنة،
- بينما التقليد الكنسي المبكر (يوستينوس، ترتليان، أوريجانوس…) يقولون إن المسيح مات بين 33–35 سنة.
من اين استنتج هذا الراي؟
استنتج هذا من النص الوارد في يوحنا 8: 57 “ليس لك خمسون سنة بعد، وقد رأيت إبراهيم؟ “
وهذا كان استهزاء من اليهود فهم لم يعلموا سنة بل قالوا ان ليس لك خمسون سنة بعد. استنتاج منهم ولكن انجيل لوقا 23: 3 يقول ان يسوع ابتدأ خدمته في سن الثلاثين. ولكنه استنتج هو من هذا النص ان مظهر يسوع لديهم قد يكون بالقرب من الخمسين. والباحثون اليوم يتفقون أن ما قاله إيريناؤس ليس تصريحًا تاريخيًا دقيقًا، بل تصريح رمزي دفاعي ضد الغنوصية. فيمكن اعتماد راية افتراض لاهوتي مبني على ظاهر نص، مش تقرير تاريخي دقيق فكان يريد ان يؤكد ان المسيح مر بالمراحل السنية من الطفولة الي النضوج أي انها مر بكل المراحل العمرية كرد علي الغنوصية التي قالت ان يسوع عاش سنة واحدة.
